Overarm Swoop, Swoop Sun, and Armicide
ARM = right arm slice, LFM = left forearm
see Flash Movie Controls

source: Corey Hoelker (USA)

oo = Open Orbits, oa = Over-The-Arm Orbits, os = Overarm Swoop, ss = Swoop Sun, and ac = Armicide.

oo = Open Orbits are clockwise circles where the bottom half of the diabolo's path is on the string; while the top half is an arched left to right toss.

OA = Over-The-Arm Orbits are clockwise circles where an arm is circled.  To circle the right arm, you need to face LEFT and point your right handstick to the right and behind you.  Correct stick position makes the string touch under the right arm, between the elbow and shoulder.  The left handstick guides the toss over the arm and back to the right.

Os = The Over-the-arm Swoop is a way to catch the diabolo when it is tossed straight up on the left side out an Over-The-Arm Orbit. The catch is made by reaching to your left with the right arm in the same position where the elbow is bent and the stick is pointing right. To catch the diabolo you come down on the falling diabolo, so the string wraps over the axle and then swings under.. After the catch the elbow stays bent and the momentum of the diabolo swings it counterclockwise to your right side.

Ss = Swoop Sun is a sun created when the right stick returns clockwise from the counterclockwise swing of the Swoop. Swing of the diabolo is more than a full circle; starting from 4 o'clock (the end of the swoop swing) and ending at 6 o'clock (the standard position). The diabolo is now on open string.

ac = The Armicide can follow any Clockwise Sun from open string. As the CW Sun begins, move the end of your right stick under you left forearm or even left wrist. Keep the stick there and notice how the sun wraps string over your arm and down to the diabolo when it finishes the Sun. The right stick can point upward and left after the Sun completes. Bring it horizontal, then push its handle down so it flips around the arm and 'suicides' above your left arm. As soon as you push the stick handle, reposition your right hand with thumb up (palm facing left) in ready of the stick catch. If you right hand is slightly above your left arm (where the string wrap was), the stick should hit your hand. Be ready for a quick catch. After the catch reposition your right hand so the stick is held correctly. The diabolo should be back on open string. More on Suicides.

Stick Hop, Stick Orbit, Alternating so & oa

Stick Hops and Stick Orbits
see Flash Movie Controls

sh = Stick Hop, so = Stick Orbit, and OA = Over-The-Arm Orbits.

source: Todd Claxton  (USA)

sh = Stick Hops are done from Over-The-Arm Orbits.  While the diabolo is moving on the string, swing your right arm and hand stick counter clockwise before the diabolo is tossed.  Stop your right hand stick at 9 o'clock with the stick pointing back.  Toss the diabolo from your left straight up and catch it on the string right of the right stick. Allow the diabolo to move leftward on the string to return back toward the left stick for the next toss.

so = Stick Orbits are like Stick Hops, but the right stick is held closer to the body (6 o'clock).  The toss needs to be more accurate because the area the diabolo passes through is smaller. A nice effect is alternating from Over-The-Arm Orbits to Stick Orbits and back

Armover String Wrap

source:
Nicolas (Paris, France)

oo = Open Orbits, oa = Over the Arm orbits, sw = String Wrap (left hand) ah = Arm Hop sl = Single speed Loop, esl = Exit Speed Loops, su = String Unwrap (right hand), lc = Left Catch, and ek = Elbow Knot.

oo = Open Orbits are clockwise circles where the bottom half of the diabolo's path is on the string; while the top half is an arched left to right toss.

A good tip with this trick is to keep the string up on the arm close to your shoulder.

SW = The String Wrap is done by following the diabolo with the left stick as it hops over the arm. Just after the diabolo rises and begins to move right, point the left stick back and chase after the diabolo as it moves right. Your left stick end should overtake the diabolo, encircling the diabolo and your arm. Your left stick should wrap string completely around your arm. Your left stick should end up left of where the string leaves the right arm. Keep the string tight enough to keep it straight, but not too tight. The diabolo should follow under your arm approaching your left stick.

ah = A Arm Hop is basically the top half of an Over-The-Arm Orbit. Before the diabolo hits your left stick, toss it so it Arm Hops back to the right.

SL = Speed Loops are the diabolo following the wrapped string around your arm in a counterclockwise circle. After catching an Arm Hop on the right string, allow the diabolo to follow the string toward the string wrapped arm. If the string is not too tight, the diabolo has enough room to go under your arm. The momentum of the diabolo should allow it to go around your arm following the string wrap.

NOTE: After the diabolo moves over the top of your arm you have a choice as to where you want the diabolo to go. If the diabolo lands on the string (from the right stick); it will do another Speed Loop. If the diabolo moves closer to your shoulder and misses the string (from the right stick); It will pass under the arm and continue toward the left stick.

ESL = To Exit from Speed Loops, after the diabolo moves over the top of your arm, the diabolo must miss the string (from the right stick) as it follows the wrapped string. This is done by making sure the movement of the diabolo is closer to your shoulder. You can also hold the right stick's end out more so the diabolo doesn't catch on the string. If the diabolo successfully misses the right stick's string it will pass under the arm and continue toward the left stick.

String Unwrap Exit

su = The String Unwrap is done after the diabolo is Arm Hopped from the left stick and the caught on the right side. After you catch the diabolo on the right string, your right hand will need to begin a Sun circle to unwrap the string off your left arm. As soon as the diabolo is caught on the right string the right wrist needs to break to get the right stick to point forward so you can perform the Sun. After the diabolo travels full circle you should be on open string, able to continue Open Orbits, without a wrap of string on your left arm.

Left Catch String Wrap Intro (lc)
see Flash Movie Controls

source: Matthew Hall (Madfest 2001)

lc = The Left Catch is a variation way to go into the String Wrap. As the diabolo does an Over The Arm Orbit and is approaching your left stick, toss the diabolo straight up on the left side. Before it comes down, point your left stick up and then behind you. The string should now rest on you left arm. Catch the diabolo on the string between your left stick and the left arm. Hold the diabolo there and then begin your string wrap from that point..

Variation Speed Loop Entrances: *When diabolo is on the left, pass the right arm behind the string inward, this can be a practice mode to get the loop quickly. *Double sun (Counterclockwise) round the right arm as in YoHo's movie.

Variation Speed Loop Exits: exits: *Left stick suicide *When diabolo is on the left, pass the right arm behind the string outward.

Elbow Knot String Wrap Intro (ek)
see Flash Movie Controls

source: John Kilgust, Merrill, WI, USA

ek = The Elbow Knot is a variation way to go into the String Wrap. The whole action involves the right hand, arm, and elbow movements around the string off the right stick. All the work done is right of the spinning diabolo which hangs near the left stick.

1) After finishing an Over-The-Arm Orbit allow the diabolo to hang on the string spinning. Note that the string runs left and right and touches under your right arm.

2) Now slowly point your right forearm toward the left. This will swing your right arm and elbow to the right and you'll notice the string tighten under your arm. You are trying to make the string off your right stick become parallel with the main string. It is OK if your right stick points up a bit.

3) Now move your right handstick and hand under the main string. This should make an 'X' on the string just right of your right arm.

4) Now swing your right arm back so your right stick points right. This should make your right elbow lift upward. Lift that elbow just above the string.

5) After the string is under your elbow and arm, position your arm back down slightly so you are in the Over-The-Arm position again. Notice that there is now a wrap of string around your right arm. You are ready for the Armover String Wrap trick.

NOTE: Practice this without a diabolo until you can remember it and do it quick enough. It is advised to perform this trick in short sleeves or with slick long sleeves.

Elbow Knot String Wrap Exit

source: John Kilgust, Merrill, WI, USA

1) After finishing an Armover String Wrap Orbit and as the diabolo nears the left stick, toss the diabolo high. The diabolo needs to be tossed high enough to give you time to unwrap the string wrap.

2) After the diabolo is tossed you should be in the position where the string runs left and right and the string touches under your right arm.

3) Now your right arm, elbow, hand, and handstick are going to unwrap the string wrap. Quickly lift your elbow and point the right stick to the right. This will swing your right forearm to become almost level..

4) When your elbow is higher than the main string, move your elbow inward over the string.

5) Keeping your arm rigid at the elbow, swing your right arm downward until the end of your right stick is lower than the main string. Note your right stick is almost pointing left now.

6) Now move your right stick and arm outward away from the main string. This should uncross the 'X' of string.

7) Now point your right stick back to the right and ready yourself for the diabolo you are about to catch

NOTE: Practice this without a diabolo until you can remember it and do it quick enough before the diabolo . It is advised to perform this trick in short sleeves or with slick long sleeves.

ALSO NOTE Pirouette Variation: Try practicing a full pirouette while doing the unwrap and while the diabolo is in the air. This makes for a very flashing finish to the amazing Armover String Wrap trick.

Variation Speed Loop Entrances: *Double sun (Counterclockwise) round the right arm as in YoHo's movie.

Variation Speed Loop Exits: exits: *Left stick suicide *When diabolo is on the left, pass the right arm behind the string outward.

Pop Goes The Weasel
see Flash Movie Controls

source: Rich Munoz---Colorado USA

1) Do an El Fonce, but don't toss it the same. Toss it up or 'pop' it up so the diabolo goes over to your right more than normal. Note: The toss can be higher if you pull the left stick downward quickly.

2) As the diabolo comes down catch it with the Overarm Rubberarm catch. This is done by swinging the right arm, hand, and stick rightward under your right shoulder so the right string is ready to catch the falling diabolo.

3) Returning the catch is the same return used with the Rubberarm Trick: a clockwise complete sun from under the shoulder to open string in front.

Monorail

see Flash Movie Controls

1) After doing an Armover String Wrap, toss the diabolo straight up off the left side.

2) As the diabolo comes down recapture it with the Left stick's string over the top of the axle. This is like catching to go to the left Backside.

3) The diabolo swings back under the arm and goes into a reverse String Wrap Orbit.

4) After twice around the arm the diabolo ends up to up to your left on the Right stick's string.

5) Getting out is a toss rightward back from the Right stick to the Right stick (which is quickly moved rightward to the Armover String Wrap position for the catch).

6) With the diabolo on the right side of the Armover String Wrap, do the String Unwrap Exit.
